Appointment as Vice Chair for Academic Advancement

Congratulations to Matthew Steinhauser, MD, who was appointed as Vice Chair for Academic Advancement, effective November 1, 2024. Dr. Steinhauser is an accomplished researcher, whose extramurally funded research program focuses on understanding the intersection between aging, adipose tissue dysfunction, and cardiometabolic disease, and he was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) in 2021.

Appointment as Associate Vice Chair for Academic Advancement

Congratulations to Aditi Gurkar, PhD, who was appointed as Associate Vice Chair for Academic Advancement, effective November 1, 2024. Dr. Gurkar’s research has highlighted the role of DNA damage induced metabolic shifts in cellular senescence and aging. She joined the Department of Medicine with a K99/R00 Transition to Independence Award through the NIA and is now funded through multiple NIH and Foundation grants. Dr. Gurkar is also committed to education and mentoring at multiple levels at the University of Pittsburgh and through her work with other non-profit organizations.

Appointment as APP Vice Chair

Congratulations to Heather Hathy, PA-C, who was appointed as Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Vice Chair. Heather will work closely with leadership to further enhance our department’s operational effectiveness and strategic direction. With her forward-thinking mindset and passion for both patient care and operational excellence, Heather is eager to work with the DOM leadership teams to advance key initiatives such as APP utilization, margin improvement, and the APP incentive program.

Appointment as Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Advancement & Engagement in Health Sciences

Congratulations to Doris Rubio, PhD, who was named Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Advancement & Engagement in Health Sciences. In this role, Dr. Rubio will work closely with the associate deans of faculty affairs across the University’s six schools of health sciences to advance faculty, with a particular emphasis on professional development, promotion and tenure, career development and mentoring.
