Karin Byers, MD, is the 2023 recipient of Excellence in Patient Experience Awards Infectious Diseases.

Clare Cene-Kush, DO, MPH, was awarded the VA Pittsburgh MEPS Award Program for her project on “Enhancing Primary Care Provider Education for Deployment Related Respiratory Disease.”

Julie Childers, MD, has been named a UPMC Senior Physician Excellence in Clinical Care Award winner.

Anna Coronata, MD, who has been awarded the Francis X. Solano, Jr. Innovation Award, which helps future academic clinicians like Dr. Coronata pursue groundbreaking primary care research.

Matthew Culyba, MD, PhD, has been appointed Assistant Director for Translational Science Education in the University of Pittsburgh-Carnegie Mellon University Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In this new role as Assistant Director for Translational Science Education in the MSTP, Dr. Culyba will develop, oversee and instruct courses on translating preclinical discoveries into clinical application.

Drs. Allison Dekosky, Debbie DiNardo, Sarah Merriam, Marie Norman, Gaetan Sgro, Andrew Thurston, and Eloho Ufomata were recently inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators, an organization that recognizes and rewards excellence in education, strives to advance education through innovation and professional development of faculty, and supports and promotes educational scholarship.

CP3 Director Walid Gellad, MD, MPH, has been awarded the Medical Student Research Mentoring Merit Award. Dr. Gellad was nominated by Noah Feder, a medical student working with CP3 faculty on several projects.

Leslie Hausmann, PhD, is a recent recipient of the VA Health Systems Research Health System Impact Award! Dr. Hausmann received the award for leading the development & dissemination of the VHA Primary Care Equity Dashboard (PCED). >> Read more

PGY1 Resident Mahmut Kaymakci, MD, received the Resident Research Award from the Rheumatology Research Foundation.

A current Advanced Fellow in Transplant Hepatology, Phoebe Lin, MD, has received the American Liver Foundation’s People’s Choice Award for her poster, Acute Alcohol- associated Hepatitis.

José Luiggi-Hernández, PhD, was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Dissertation in Qualitative Inquiry Award for modifying Hermeneutic Phenomenology for use in his dissertation.

Colleen Mayowski, EdD, is this year’s recipient of the ICRE Legacy Award.

Lakeya McGill, PhD, was honored with a MAPRS 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award! Dr. McGill & other awardees spoke on the “Empowering Diverse Voices in Doctoral Leadership: Tips for Encouraging Developing Scientists in Self-Advocacy” panel during the 2024 symposium.

Casey N. McQuade, MD, MSEd, has been named as the new co-lead for the Three Rivers Curriculum (3RC) Clinical Reasoning Thread. 3RC marks a shift toward small-group discussions, case-based learning, and interdisciplinary engagement in Med Ed.

Patrick Strollo, MD, is this year’s recipient of the Disabled Veterans of America (DAV) National Commander Award for Outstanding Veterans Health Administration Employee of The Year.

Katie Suda, PharmD, MS, was elected as an American College of Clinical Pharmacy Foundation Trustee. In this role, Dr. Suda will help develop strategic plans, prioritize research & education programs, & actively participate in fundraising efforts to ensure the Foundation’s growth and success. Dr. Suda was also named the winner of Pitt’s 2024 Big Proposal Bootcamp to advance her crucial research on drug shortages.
