I grew up in New Jersey, went to college in South Carolina (go Tigers), and then attended West Virginia University for medical school; however, my heart has always been in Pittsburgh. Because my family is originally from Pittsburgh, we spent a lot of time here when I was growing up, and I knew this is where I would always end up. I love spending time in nature, running, watching and playing sports, lifting weights, baking, hiking, drinking coffee, eating ice cream, and cheering on all Pittsburgh teams!

Michelle Chisdak, MD

I grew up in upstate New York, left for undergrad at Tufts, and came back upstate for medical school before deciding on UPMC for residency. I chose UPMC for the autonomy and growth built into resident-led rounds and the emphasis on medical education. During residency, I completed the medical education certificate track, which grew my interest in medical education and academic medicine. I am interested in curriculum design and working with struggling learners. I’m thrilled to be completing a chief year to build on those interests, sharpen my teaching skills, and grow as a leader. I’m pursuing a career in combined renal-palliative care. I’m passionate about the intersection of the two fields and am currently working on a longitudinal research project developing pragmatic guidance for running a concurrent hospice and dialysis program, aimed at increasing access to end-of-life resources for patients on dialysis. Outside the hospital, I love running, going to the gym, watching sports and reality TV, birdwatching, and reading on the couch with my senior cat, Viktor.

Adam Eibel, MD

After studying at Pitt Med, I chose to stay at UPMC for residency because of the emphasis on early resident autonomy and individualized education. I had a great experience in residency at UPMC and realized I wanted teaching/working with trainees to be a large part of my eventual career. Because of this, I chose to take on a chief year and am excited to serve as the VA CRQS (Chief Resident of Quality & Patient Safety) for 2026-2027. Outside of medical education and QI, I’m also interested in heart failure and cardiogenic shock research. When I’m not at the hospital, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, running, and cycling (pretty much anything that gets me outside!).

I grew up in Missouri and stayed close to home for school before heading to Pittsburgh for residency. My first exposure to the city came during an away rotation in my fourth year of medical school, in UPMC’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU) – where I fell in love with both Pittsburgh and cardiac critical care. Throughout residency, my interests in medical education, mentorship, and leadership grew, leading me to accept a Chief Resident position. In this role, I focus primarily on recruitment, conference scheduling, and the POCUS curriculum. Outside of medicine, I stay active through running, weightlifting, and yoga, love to travel and try new recipes and restaurants, and enjoy spending time with my husband and church community.

I’ve spent most of my life in the Midwest, making my way slowly east until I found myself in Pittsburgh for residency! I loved my training at UPMC and felt strongly about continuing to work with young doctors as they start their new careers in medicine, which led me to accept the role as Chief Medical Resident along with my 4 other incredible Co-Chiefs. In this role, I focus on recruitment, moonlighting, and debriefing, with personal interest on encouraging resident well-being through exercise. My fiancé works in medicine as well, as a veterinarian, and together we enjoy spending time outside with our goofy boxer/pitbull rescue named Barney.
